Watch: Mitchell Santner took a spectacular one-handed catch to dismiss UAE batter Asif Khan off his own bowling in the first T20I of New Zealand’s tour of the UAE on August 17.
Mitchell Santner is no stranger to fielding pyrotechnics and outrageous displays of athleticism. Failing to read Santner’s cunning chance of pace here, UAE batter Asif Khan chipped a ball in the air at the end of the sixth over. Santner took a few steps to his right and hurled his stretched body in the air to catch the ball with his right hand.
Chasing a target of 156 set by the visitors, the stunning grab derailed the UAE’s chase further, reducing them to 62-3 after seven overs. The home side couldn’t recover from the dent as they were bowled out for 136, falling short by 19 runs.
Santner finished with figures of 2-22 while the wrecker-in-chief Tim Southee ended with 5-25.
Earlier, New Zealand posted a decent total of 155-6, thanks to Tim Seifert’s 55 off 34 deliveries and Rachin Ravindra’s quickfire 21 not out off 11 balls.
The Black Caps lead the three-match T20I series 1-0, with two matches still to be played.
