Matt Parkinson produced a moment of magic during the third and final ODI of England’s World Cup Super League series against Pakistan at Edgbaston.
Despite spending considerable periods of time away with England squads over the past year, Parkinson has found game time hard to come by for the national side. The COVID-19 outbreak in England’s original ODI squad for the Pakistan series presented an opportunity for the Lancashire leggie to show what he’s capable of at international level.
Parkinson has been excellent for Lancashire this year. In the County Championship, Parkinson has taken 24 wickets at 19.75 for a Lancashire side that’s qualified for Division One, producing a pair of viral moments already this season – first, a Warne-esque ripper to Adam Rossington, the second, a sharp turning leg-break into Delray Rawlins.
His dismissal of Imam-ul-Haq in the Pakistan ODI was reminiscent of that wicket of Rawlins. Bowling from around the wicket, Parkinson tossed one up outside the left-hander’s off stump before getting it to turn prodigiously into Pakistan opener, passing the inside edge of his bat before careering into middle stump.
The wicket of Imam came at a handy time for England, putting an end to a 92-run stand between Imam and his skipper Babar Azam.

You just can’t play that 🤯
Absolute magic 😍
