It’s the eighth quickest delivery to take a wicket for England in a home Test, according to CricViz.
Rohit Sharma and Rahul had troubled England plenty in this series, putting on stands of 97 and 126 in the first innings at Trent Bridge and at the Home of Cricket respectively. Joe Root decided to go left-field with the new ball and toss it to Mark Wood just five overs into the innings, despite his allwt. Wood went for six runs in his opening over, followed it up with a maiden, and with the first ball of his third over, sent back Rahul to give England an early breakthrough.
Rahul had scores of 101*, 84, 26 and 129 since landing in England with the first hundred coming in the warm-up game against County Select XI and has been India’s highest run-scorer in the series so far.
Playing with soft hands to counter swing and seam has been his mantra so far this series, but Root threw a spanner in the works when he handed the new ball, still skidding around, to England’s quickest bowler. The sharp 93.7mph delivery from Wood angled into Rahul and then straightened off the deck to take the edge.

Wood went on to engage in an another exciting battle with Rohit Sharma, testing the opener with bouncers, the first of which disappeared into the stands. Wood was persistent with the strategy, however, and reaped the rewards a couple of balls later, as Rohit pulled one straight to the deep fielder to give England a second wicket in the morning session.
