Australia won the toss and elected to field in the second ODI after winning the first one comfortably. They started off well, getting rid of South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt in the first over of the match. It was tough going from thereon for the hosts, however.

Almost everyone in the South Africa middle order stood up. Kapp top-scored with 75 off 87 at No.5 as South Africa managed to put up a fighting total of 229-6 from 45 overs after a rain interruption cut the game short.

Australia started off positively in response, adding 22 inside four overs, but once the first wicket fell on the first ball of the fifth, it became a procession. Australia slipped from 22-0 to 71-8.

Kapp first removed Healy, getting her to edge behind to the wicketkeeper, before an unplayable, hooping inswinger to the left-handed Beth Mooney from over the wicket two balls later took out her middle stump, making her look sheepish in the process.

In her next over, Kapp got her third wicket, trapping Phoebe Litchfield lbw. At the end of 15 overs, Australia’s score read 73-8, with Kim Garth and Ashleigh Gardner at the crease.
