The top two sides in the Super Six will take the final pair of spots at the 2023 World Cup – a win for Sri Lanka over Zimbabwe would guarantee their pathway to the marquee event in India.
Both teams entered the contest with 100 percent records in the competition so far. Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been one of the standout bowlers in the competition, and he made an impact once more, dismissing Zimbabwe’s in-form middle order batter Sean Williams.
On 127-4 with Williams – coming off back-to-back hundreds – on 56, Theekshana fired in a slightly flatter delivery, beating Williams through the air and off the pitch. That wicket kickstarted a dramatic Zimbabwe collapse – they spiralled to 165 all out as Theekshana finished with figures of 4-25.
