He’s a wicketkeeper by trade, but KL Rahul showed he can field on the boundary with the best of them, completing a stunning save to prevent a seemingly certain straight six in the first India-England T20I.

The magnificent fielding effort came on the first ball of the fifth over, bowled by Axar Patel. Having started watchfully, Jos Buttler went on the charge, coming down the track and launching straight down the ground. Stationed at long off, Rahul judged his leap to perfection, grabbing the ball even as he travelled beyond the boundary rope.

The fielder then displayed excellent presence of mind, flinging the ball back into the field of play. With no other fielder nearby due to the Powerplay restrictions, preventing a maximum was the best that could be hoped for. The England openers only had time to run a couple, meaning four runs were saved by the athletic display.
