Watch: Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell, two T20 stalwarts of West Indies Cricket, faced each other in the ILT20 – it ended with Pollard looting 26 runs off one Russell over, on his way to a quickfire 17-ball 43.
Pollard, playing for MI Emirates, helped his side book a place into the playoffs with a cameo from No.5, which helped his side reach 180-4 in 20 overs. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, in response, fell short by 18 runs, losing their eighth match in a row.
The Emirates were 131-3 in 17 overs when Russell began his third over, with Pollard, his long-time international teammate, waiting at the other end. Pollard hit a boundary in five out of the six deliveries: he began with a couple of fours, took a two off the third ball, and then smashed a six before ending with another four – albeit with the help of some outside edges. He finished the over with another six, smacking a low full-toss over long on to garner 26 runs off six balls. Russell finished with figures of 3-0-35-0.
However, Russell himself turned on the heat with the bat in the second innings, although he didn’t get much support from his teammates. He clobbered 42 off 22 balls, keeping the Knight Riders in the hunt, but his departure in the 13th over turned things around. They were eventually bowled out for 162.
