The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots put up 178-5 after being put into bat by the Trinbago Knight Riders. All their batters got starts. Andre Fletcher led the charge at the top with a 17-ball 32, while captain Sherfane Rutherford smashed an unbeaten 38-ball 62 with four fours and five sixes from No.5.

The first innings also saw the first ever red card for a player. CPL has introduced new over-rate penalties that involve, among other things, the fielding side losing a fielder for the final over of the innings. Sunil Narine had to leave the field since the Knight Riders failed to start the final over on time, after having bowled an exceptional spell of 3-24 off his four overs.

The Knight Riders got off to a poor start, losing both their openers for single-digit scores. Nicholas Pooran, however, continued his good form and struck 61 off 32 balls. He got good support from Lorcan Tucker, who was more sedate with a 31-ball 37.

Pollard and Andre Russell then blasted their team away to a quick win. Pollard had made three off his first six balls when 19-year-old Afghan leg-spinner Izharulaq Naveed came on to bowl the 15th over.

Naveed bowled a long-hop – not once or twice but four times in the same over. Pollard duly smashed each of them over mid wicket for a six, all of them longer than a hundred metres.

Russell hit two sixes and two fours in the next two overs before Pollard hit another six in the 18th over to finish off the chase with 17 balls remaining.
