Watch: Jasprit Bumrah ended yet another Joe Root masterclass with an in-ducking beauty that pegged back the England captain’s middle stump late on day two of the third England-India Test at Headingley.
Root made his third hundred in three Tests – the second time he has done so this year – in moving to his 23rd Test ton, meaning only Alastair Cook has made more for England. He now has six hundreds in 2021. No England batsman has made more in a single calendar year.
It was always going to take something special to get him out, and that’s exactly what Bumrah provided. Wicketless heading into his 25th over of the day, but having been the pick of India’s bowlers, he delivered a beauty angling in towards Root with the seam positioned perfectly, piercing the gap between bat and pad as the ball pitched and ducked in.
Root was castled, and while he had put England into a dominant position, India at least had something to savour.

Another wonderful innings from the skipper comes to an end.
