Jasprit Bumrah made an impact right before lunch on day one of the Chennai Test against England, claiming the wicket of Dan Lawrence. Watch him celebrate it without even checking with the umpire!
Jasprit Bumrah’s first Test match at home, three years after his Test debut, was highly anticipated. He had played 17 Test matches before today, all away from India. He was either injured or rested for the three home series India played since his Test debut in South Africa in 2018.
With Ravichandran Ashwin sending back Rory Burns after England’s resilient opening stand, India had an opening to try and push for more. Virat Kohli subsequently brought back Bumrah to bowl at the new man, Dan Lawrence.
Bumrah took just four deliveries to strike, as the ball reversed back into the right hander to trap him plumb in front. The right-arm bowler was so sure of his dismissal that he barely bothered to check with the umpire before running off in celebration.
