Jasprit Bumrah dismissed South Africa’s Marco Jansen with an excellent delivery before giving the young all-rounder a cool death stare to accompany the death rattle of the sumps.

Jansen was Bumrah’s third of five wickets on the day as he finished the South African innings with figures of 5-42 from 23.3 overs.

The reaction from Bumrah in taking Jansen’s wicket was not without context. The two have had an on-running feud over the course of the series, often exchanging terse words and delivering a number of bouncers in each others’ direction.

Bumrah’s delivery to Jansen was ever so slightly back of a length and angling in. Jansen attempted to get a stride in but was caught on the crease and ended up playing inside the line allowing the ball to crash into off-stump.

At the time of the dismissal, South Africa were 176-6, still 43 runs behind but with Keegan Petersen at the crease on 70 not out. However, the wicket of Jansen was followed shortly after by that of Petersen’s and South Africa were at risk of surrendering a considerable first innings deficit.

However, cameos from Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier meant that South Africa added another 30 runs for their final two wickets and ended up conceding a deficit of just 13 runs.
