Watch: New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham pulled off a remarkable reverse ramp off a full-toss that sailed for a six during his unbeaten 16-ball 45 against Australia in the second T20I at Dunedin.

Neesham, who has often shown his versatility and range of strokes down the order for New Zealand, played a blistering cameo in Dunedin’s first-ever T20I, hitting six of his 16 deliveries over the fence.

Three of those sixes came off the first three deliveries he faced, two off which were against Daniel Sams in the 15th over, and one off Adam Zampa in the over that followed. However, it was his sixth and final six in the 20th over of the innings that instantly grabbed eyeballs.

It was a pre-meditated stroke with a touch of improvisation. When Sams was about to deliver the second ball of the final over, Neesham shaped up to possibly play a ramp in expectation of a fullish delivery. The bowler, probably in an attempt to compensate, ended up sending a low full-toss way outside off-stump, but Neesham managed to execute his stroke anyway, following the path of the delivery and scooping the ball over his left shoulder. The ball ended up flying over the third man fence.

It instantly brought back memories of Brendon McCullum’s now trademark hits over the head, but few would have probably been as outrageous as this one.

Neesham went on to play a further crucial role in the game, defending 14 runs off the last over to give New Zealand a 2-0 lead in the T20I series. The latest odds can be found at Aussiebets.com.
