Gujarat Titans began their chase of 174 runs on a powerful note, thanks to a quickfire opening stand of 75 runs between Chris Gayle and Jacques Kallis. While Gayle upped the ante with a blistering 38 off 24 deliveries, comprising seven fours and a maximum, before departing in the 6.4 overs, his partner, the ever-dependable Kallis, kept the scoreboard ticking at a healthy rate.
Kallis never looked rusty for a moment, and his strokeplays were reminiscent of his heyday. That high backlift and the signature trigger movement followed by the simple follow-through were all part of his cluster of eye-catching boundaries. The cover drive he hit off Mitchell McClenaghan to get off the mark was a treat to watch.
He departed for 56 runs off 42 balls in the 18th over, resulting in a collapse as Gujarat Titans failed to score the remaining 19 runs from 16 balls and ended on 163-9.
