Watch: Irfan Pathan smashed an unbeaten 37 in 12 deliveries in the semifinal of the 2022 Road Safety Series, as India Legends stormed into the final of the T20 league.
37-year-old Pathan hit four sixes, including three in one over, against Australia Legends as he helped his side chase down 172 at Raipur. The day began with whirlwind knocks from Ben Dunk (46 in 26) and Cameron White (30 in 18), which helped Australia post a challenging total on the board.
Indian Legends, in turn, did not get off to the best start, crawling to 38 in 5.2 overs before captain Sachin Tendulkar departed for an 11-ball 10. The side collapsed to 125-5, still needing 47 in the last 26 deliveries. Irfan, walking in at No.7, combined with opener Naman Ojha and played a blinder, hitting a maximum in just the fourth ball that he faced.
The equation boiled down to 24 in the last two overs, with Pathan facing Dirk Nannes. The first ball that he faced was sent for a six, and the same outcome followed on the very next delivery, with Pathan smashing another maximum to long-on. There was no respite for Nannes, who sent down a wide next before Pathan smoked another six on his third legal ball.
Pathan finished off the game with a four off Brett Lee, scoring 37* in 12 at a strike rate of 308.33. Ojha was unbeaten on 90 in 62, as India entered the final. They will take on Sri Lanka in the summit clash.
