Watch: Playing for Notts Outlaws, Pakistan’s Imad Wasim produced a double strike in a maiden over against Somerset during their 2023 T20 Blast quarter-final in Taunton.
Imad, opening the bowling with Luke Fletcher as Somerset began their chase of 158, dismissed Tom Banton off the first ball of the second over, and Tom-Kohler Cadmore off the last delivery.
Banton tried to bring out his now trademark reverse sweep early, but couldn’t quite work out Imad’s pace. He swung early, managing only a top edge that lobbed to wicketkeeper Tom Moores. The umpire initially gave him not out, but the decision was reversed after a referral.
Four dot balls later, Kohler-Cadmore tried to work a ball onto the off side, but made too much room, letting the ball skid through off the surface and into his stumps.
The double-wicket strike wasn’t enough though: Somerset eased to a five-wicket win in the final over, with Imad conceding 33 runs off his next three wicketless overs.
It was due to Imad that Nottinghamshire crossed the 150-run mark earlier. A rapid 15-ball 31 from No.8 proved to be a vital flourish at the end, helping them get 56 in the last four overs.
