The teams were playing in the Pakistan Cup in Rawalpindi with Lahore setting Faisalabad 242 to win after batting first. Teenage prodigy Hunain struck with the first ball of the eighth over to get the ball rolling for Lahore, getting Mohammad Huraira out for a 25-ball five.
He then pinned Mohammad Irfan lbw for six to leave Faisalabad 57-3 in the 15th over. The very next ball brought him another wicket as he snared Ali Shan for a duck to set-up a hat-trick delivery. Hunain missed the hat-trick from the first ball of his next over but struck off the third ball, bowling Asif Ali for a seven-ball six.
He took the final wicket of Arham Nawab to end Faisalabad’s innings for 149 all out and leave them 92 runs short of their target. Hunain himself finished with figures of 6-26, in what was only his fourth List A match. His most recent List A match was in December 2022 for Central Punjab, where he returned figures of 1-37 off six overs.
Hunain’s elder brother Naseem Shah is currently recovering from a shoulder injury which he picked up during the Asia Cup, and which ruled him out of the ongoing World Cup. Hunain recently impressed with his bowling in a first-class fixture against Karachi Whites where he dismissed Saim Ayub with his first ball of the match.
