Watch: A defiant Cheteshwar Pujara stood rock-solid against Australia’s hostile pace attack to anchor India’s successful run-chase in Brisbane.

The Australian pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc tried their level best to breach Pujara’s rock-solid defence, employing the short-ball tactics through the fifth day of the Gabba Test. However, as had been the case throughout the series, and the one in 2018/19, India’s No. 3 stood firm and in the company of young and dynamic Rishabh Pant, scripted one of India’s most historic win.

Pujara occupied the crease for five hours, fourteen minutes, facing 211 deliveries for his 56 which included seven hits to the fence. The highlight, however, was him being unfazed despite copping at least 11 blows to his body during his stay.

By the end of it all, Pujara had faced 928 deliveries in the series, the most by anyone – still 330 fewer than his tally during the 2018/19 tour.
