Watch: Shimron Hetmyer walked off ‘obstructing the field’ for a golden duck after knocking a bouncing ball away with his hand during Guyana’s ongoing four-day game against Leeward Island.
Hetmyer, who wasn’t picked for the tour of India due to fitness standards, came in at No.3 in Guyana’s first innings at the fall of Chandrapaul Hemraj’s wicket. Jeremiah Louis’ next delivery was defended by new man Hetmyer, but the ball popped up off the pitch and headed towards the stumps.
Hetmyer turned around and instinctively flicked the ball away with his left hand. Instantly, he put his hand behind his back, and walked off, glancing for a moment at the umpire to confirm his dismissal. The Leeward players had already started celebrating.
The 25-year-old was one of eight players who were dismissed for single digit scores in the first innings, as Guyana folded for 116.
