Watch: Jack Leach claimed his second wicket on the opening day of the Headingley Test in fortuitous fashion after Henry Nicholl’s drilled drive ricocheted off his partner Daryl Mitchell’s bat straight into the hands of Alex Lees at mid-off.
Up until that point, the final over before tea, Nicholls had batted diligently for a 98-ball 19. Off the second ball of the over, Nicholls forcefully drove Leach down the ground.
The ball struck Mitchell’s bat before ballooning to Lees who had the wherewithal to keep track of the ball despite its change of direction. The wicket was England’s fifth of the day.
