Watch: Pakistan quick Hassan Ali went on a stump-hitting spree, taking a hat-trick and another wicket two balls later, for Warwickshire Second XI against Northamptonshire Second XI in a T20 in Birmingham that served as a warm-up ahead of the T20 Blast.
Hassan finished with figures of 3-0-14-5, including the wicket of top-scorer David Willey (79) as his hat-trick victim. Willey was one among only four Northamptonshire batters to go into double figures, as Hassan’s spell helped bowl them out for 154.
Hassan’s hat-trick was a non-continuous one, picking up Aadi Sharma and A Rao off the last two balls of the 17th over. The first ball of the 18th gave him his hat-trick, as Willey missed his reverse ramp and was yorked. Willey punched his bat in disappointment, while Hassan celebrated in his trademark style. Two balls later, he dismissed Alex Russell as well, making it four wickets in five balls. He had already dismissed Chris Lynn earlier in the innings.
The last four Hassan wickets were all bowled as he targeted the stumps with skiddy yorkers at a good pace. It would serve as ideal preparation for the T20 Blast, which begins on Saturday, May 20.
Last week, Hassan, the batter, put on an impactful contribution for Warwickshire, smashing a quickfire half-centuryagainst Essex in the County Championship.
