Watch: Harbhajan Singh bowled a classic off-spinner from over the wicket which turned a mile and knocked Chris Gayle’s leg stump over in India Maharaja’s clash against the World Giants in the Legends League Cricket Masters in Doha.
Harbhajan had come on to bowl early in the third over of the innings as he had a favourable matchup against Gayle. He didn’t have the best of starts though as he delivered two consecutive wides from round the wicket.
Having not found any rhythm from that angle, he didn’t waste much time switching to over the wicket and it reaped instant rewards. Starting outside leg on a back of length, it looked like it would end up being a third consecutive wide. But the revolutions on the ball and the impeccable seam position meant the ball turned big.
Gayle, who went back and across and was looking to paddle it fine, was deceived by the degree of turn and ended up missing the ball, only for it to crash into his middle and leg stumps behind his legs.
Even Harbhajan couldn’t believe it for a moment as he seemed to be checking with the umpire what had happened only for Robin Uthappa to come running towards him to celebrate and let him know that he bowled the Universe Boss.
He finished with impressive figures of 4–13 in his two overs, but it wasn’t enough in the end as the India Maharajas lost the game by two runs.
