On a day when Glenn Phillips became New Zealand’s fastest T20I centurion against West Indies, it was a diving catch at the boundary line by him that seemingly grabbed the most eyeballs.
Phillips, the 23-year-old batsman, had already stolen headlines with his incredible 46-ball century at No.4, powering New Zealand to a mammoth 238-3 in the second T20I against West Indies, ending with 108 off 51 balls.
Most players would have been content with a record-breaking effort like that, but Phillips wasn’t done just yet, pulling off a blinder in the ninth over of West Indies’ innings.
Phillips was at deep midwicket when Kyle Mayers clubbed a short ball by James Neesham to the leg side. The strike looked good enough to just take the ball over the ropes, but Phillips covered his ground remarkably, flinging himself to his right to grab the ball with both hands mid-air, completing a full-stretch catch and landing just a few feet away from the boundary rope.
