Watch: Glenn Maxwell was clean bowled by Rashid Khan while attempting a trademark switch-hit during a MLC 2024 match between Washington Freedom and MI New York yesterday (July 16).
In Match 14 of the 2024 MLC, Washington Freedom were put into bat by MI New York after they lost the toss. Travis Head got them off to a blistering start, before being dismissed for 54 off 33 balls in the 12th over, bringing Maxwell to the crease.
The Australian all-rounder made 15 off 14 deliveries, including a six off Nosthush Kenjige, before he was cleaned up by a Rashid Khan leg break in the 16th over. Maxwell switched his stance to shape up for a switch hit. Rashid dragged the length short, managing to beat Maxwell's attempted swipe and crashing into the right-hander's off and middle stumps.
It was the second wicket of the night for Rashid Khan after having dismissed Steve Smith in the fifth over of the innings. Washington ended up with 182-5 from their 20 overs, which turned out to be far too many for MI as they were bundled out for just 88.
The victory solidified Washington Freedom's position at the top of the table with nine points from five games, while the defeat for MI meant they now have only three points from five games and are fifth on the table.
