Put into bat by the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the Jamaica Tallawahs started well courtesy of Brandon King, who scored a half-century. King scored 52 off 32 balls, but the other Jamaica batters couldn’t get going at all.

Alex Hales, Kirk McKenzie, Imad Wasim, and Shamarh Brooks all scored at a run a ball or lower before Raymon Reifer and Fabian Allen played a couple of cameos to take them past 150.

Coming at No.7, Allen struggled through to four off his first seven balls. Then he smashed a half-volley from Dwaine Pretorius over the long-off fence for a 98m six that crashed into a window at the Providence Stadium.

He hit another one three balls later, this time even bigger – a 103m six off Imran Tahir over his head. Allen finished unbeaten on 21 off 14 balls as Jamaica reached 152-5 off their 20 overs.

It proved to be nowhere near enough as Guyana chased the score down with nine balls and seven wickets to spare thanks to Saim Ayub’s third consecutive 50-plus score. Ayub anchored the chase to perfection, scoring 85 off 53 with five fours and five sixes. He was well supported by his opening partner Matthew Nandu, who scored 37 off 35 balls.

With this win, Guyana reached the top of the table with 13 points from seven games, while Jamaica are fifth, with five points from eight games.
