Watch: Ellyse Perry produced a stunning piece of fielding on the boundary to prevent a six in Australia’s win in the second ODI against New Zealand – their 23rd consecutive victory in the format.
Fielding at long-on, New Zealand batter Maddy Green looked to clear Perry off the bowling of Georgia Wareham with the White Ferns needing well over a run a ball in their run chase.
Initially, it looked like Green’s lofted drive would be rewarded with a six but Perry leapt into the air, taking the ball with both feet off the ground, and despite her momentum taking her over the boundary rope, delivered a strong, instinctive throw to prevent the boundary, restricting Green to just two runs.
In the end, Australia sealed a comfortable 71-run victory. Rachael Haynes was the Player of the Match for her 87 at the top of the order, a score that helped Australia to a total of 271-7 off their 50 overs. Regular wickets in the New Zealand run chase prevented the hosts from seriously challenging the Australia score.
