Watch: A club cricketer managed to hit a six that was far more expensive for him than it was for the bowler, with the ball travelling outside the field of play, into the adjoining car park, and smashing his own car rear windscreen.

Asif Ali, playing for Illingworth St Mary’s Cricket Club, went down on his haunches in despair moments after striking a mighty blow, and while he was clearly upset, the rest of those playing were only able to see the funny side, erupting in laughter as it became clear what had happened.

While ordinarily the fixed-camera set-ups in club cricket might make such an event hard to appreciate, in this instance the sound captured off-screen and the reactions of all those in shot combine to make it funnier still.

Adding to the humour is the club’s shirt sponsor: ‘Fix Auto Bradford South’. Though at least there’s a chance of a cheap repair job.

Playing against Sowerby St Peter’s CC in the quarter-final of the Halifax Cricket League Crossley Shield on Sunday, Asif ended up unbeaten on 43, with the car-smashing six one of three he hit in his run-a-ball innings. However, it was Sowerby St Peters who triumphed by seven wickets.
