Watch: Chris Lynn was at his belligerent best in the 2016 Big Bash League when he smashed five consecutive sixes off Ben Hilfenhaus at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Put into bat by Melbourne Stars skipper David Hussey, Brisbane Heat got off to a shaky start when Michael Beer removed Jimmy Peirson in the first over. Lynn, the Brisbane skipper, had a lot resting on his shoulders.
He began in aggressive fashion, racing away to 23 in 13 balls and taking his side to 48-1 after five overs. The best, though, was reserved for Hilfenhaus in the last over of the powerplay.
Hilfenhaus began the over bowling from over the wicket. Lynn pushed the first ball to cover. The second ball was back of a length at the stumps, and Lynn opened up his stance just enough before clattering it over deep mid wicket for a 103-metre six.
Hilfenhaus switched to around the wicket but landed in the slot outside leg stump. Lynn gave himself some room and shovelled it over cow corner.
He was far from done. The fourth ball, a low full toss, and was dispatched over deep square leg. Off the fifth, a slower delivery just outside off stump, Lynn swung through the line and hammered over the sightscreen.
The last ball was full and at the stumps, but it did not matter to Lynn as he pumped it over the bowler’s head for a flat six. He eventually fell to Adam Zampa in the eighth over, for a 24-ball 56.
Lynn’s knock powered Brisbane Heat to a total of 188-7 as Lendl Simmons (44 in 35 balls), Nathan Reardon (25 in 19), and Ben Cutting (22 in 11) also contributed.
Melbourne Stars could only manage 132-9 in reply against Samuel Badree (5-32) and slumped to a 56-run defeat.
