He faced the likes of Sam Curran and Chris Jordan, who found his outside edge and had him caught behind to mass celebrations from Jordan and the fielders.

The Prime Minister also tried his hand at bowling, where he showed off a reasonable action and produced an impressive off-stump yorker that bowled another guest.

It came as a group of England’s T20 side led by captain Jos Buttler and coach Matthew Mott, attended a Downing Street reception to celebrate their success in Australia.

Buttler’s side beat Pakistan in a thrilling final at the MCG to become the first men’s side to hold the T20 and ODI World Cup trophies at the same time.

The likes of Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes were also in attendance, alongside England’s director of men’s cricket Rob Key and a group from the ACE programme.

Sunak posted a similar video on his Instagram with the caption: “That’s one item off the bucket list.”

The Prime Minister’s version noticeably did not feature his dismissal by Jordan, although he did joke with the bowler about not mentioning the ball.

Kevin Pietersen pointed out that the England players were “much more sober” than in a previous trip to Downing Street, recalling an infamous audience with Tony Blair following the 2005 Ashes win.
