Watch: Jasprit Bumrah was seen bowling in full tilt during a residential camp in Alur as he marks his comeback to professional cricket following a prolonged absence due to a back injury.

Bumrah has not played a single game since September 2022, when he aggravated his back injury, which he had sustained during the ODI series in England in July. He led India in the fifth Test match against England, and took part in one T20I and two ODIs, before missing the third ODI due to back spasms.

Two months later, he was declared fit and was selected for the T20Is against Australia, just ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he was eventually ruled out, first from the T20I series and subsequently the multi-nation event, due to a back stress fracture.

After attempts at multiple comebacks – he was named in India’s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series earlier this year following a video of him bowling at “full throttle” at the nets before being ruled out – he finally seems to be back to full fitness if recent videos are to be believed.

Bumrah is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy. During a pre-season camp organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association over the weekend, he bowled ten overs in two spells at full throttle to the young batters in Alur.

He constantly challenged the outside edge of the batters, troubling them with his slingy action and pace, and looks to make a comeback for the Ireland T20Is, two months ahead of the home World Cup.
