Watch: South Africa A tailender Glenton Stuurman’s last-second ‘brain fade’ saw him get run out against India A during the unofficial four-day Test between the two sides in Bloemfontein.

Stuurman had walked in at 249-9 and added 48 crucial runs with Marco Jansen. In the 106th over, India A’s Ishan Porel ran in and bowled from around the wicket, with Jansen defending it down the ground. The ball hopped down the pitch, and Porel put his boot in to decelerate it.

The ball lobbed in the air, and caught the non-striker off guard. Even though, as soon as Jansen had helped the ball down the ground, Stuurman had made sure that his bat was inside the crease, he lost his concentration for just a bit, moving out as the ball approached the stumps. Unfortunately, it happened at the same time as the ball had taken Porel’s boot.

After grounding his bat, Stuurman looked back at the striker for a moment, at the same time he took his bat off the crease. That very second, the ball crashed into the stumps and he was deemed as run out.

The on-air commentators went, “Ohhhh! No way! Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Glenton Stuurman has been run out at the non-striker’s end off the boot of the bowler it looks like. This is a massive issue for South Africa.”
