Stuart Broad took two wickets in the opening session of the third and final England-New Zealand Test at Headingley.

The veteran seamer enjoyed a dream start to the Test, taking the early breakthrough of  opener Tom Latham in the first over of the match.

Later in the morning session, with New Zealand already two wickets down, Broad claimed the crucial wicket of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson after setting him up with a prodigious in-swinger the previous delivery.

With the fifth ball of the 23rd over, Broad swung the ball sharply into Williamson with the New Zealand batter beaten on the inside edge and struck on the thigh pad. The following delivery was hung outside the off stump and held its line. Williamson prodded forward in defence, and perhaps anticipating inward movement, played inside the line of the ball, edging it through to a grateful Ben Foakes behind the stumps.

The wicket was Broad’s 548th in Test cricket.
