Watch: Nottinghamshire’s Ben Duckett was out in remarkable circumstances, scooping a delivery into Lancashire wicketkeeper Dane Vilas’ helmet, only for the ball to loop up and allow Vilas to complete a diving catch.
Duckett was 29 off 21 balls when the incident occurred: he could hardly believe his luck, or lack thereof, when his well-executed scoop shot not only struck wicket-keeper Vilas but rebounded in such a way that allowed him to take a diving catch in the opposite direction.
It was a bonus wicket for Lancashire’s left-arm spinner Tom Hartley, who finished the innings with figures of 2-27 off of his four overs as he also claimed the wicket of Samit Patel.
The dismissal occurred during the North Group group stage game between Lancashire and Nottinghamshire that was being hosted in Blackpool.
Nottinghamshire, traditionally very strong in the shortest format, have struggled by their usual standards in the competition this year with just three wins in seven completed matches. Lancashire, meanwhile, are second in the group with six wins from nine games and would go top with victory against Notts.
Nottinghamshire recovered from their early bout of bad luck/Vilas brilliance to post 179-7, with Patel top-scoring with 45 from 36 balls.
