Watch: Temba Bavuma’s bat broke in bizarre fashion after playing a routine defensive stroke off the bowling of Faheem Ashraf during the second ODI between South Africa and Pakistan at The Wanderers.

When on seven during the 16th over, Bavuma defended a back-0f-a-length delivery from Faheem only for the back of his bat to give way and tear off despite the South African captain nearly middling it. Faheem, who generally operates in the region of 128-136kph, is arguably the least likely member of the Pakistan pace attack to break a bat.
With a new blade in hand, Bavuma played a fine knock falling just short of what would have been a second ODI hundred. His 92 was the highest score for his side as South Africa put up a total of 341-6 from their 50 overs.
