Yasir Khan was dismissed by Aamir Jamal despite a bat-ball gap

Pakistan's Yasir Khan was dismissed in bizarre circumstances in the ongoing Champions Cup, adjudged caught-behind despite an obvious gap between the bat and ball.

Yasir, opening the batting alongside Shan Masood for Stallions, combined with the Pakistan Test captain for a 35-run opening stand against the Mohammad Haris-led Lions. In the 16th over, Yasir lost his wicket in a rather baffling manner.

Aamir Jamal hurled a delivery wide of the stumps, which pitched and deviated further away from Yasir. The 22-year-old still had a go at the ball, throwing his bat at it. The ball flew to the right of wicketkeeper Sajjad Ali Hashmi, who took a sharp diving grab, and started celebrating. As did Jamal. The umpire raised his finger too.

However, a closer inspection of the clip suggested that there might not have been any edge whatsoever, the deviating ball travelled past the bat – a gap quite apparent – before it was gobbled up by the keeper.

Yet, the batter did not protest, walking off even as the Stallions celebrated, with the crowd busy welcoming the arrival of Babar.

The Champions Cup 2024, the PCB's new domestic 50-over tournament, has been in the news for its high-profile lineup of players and mentors. However, eyebrows have been raised over the contracts of the mentors, who are set to be collectively paid PKR 25 million per month.

Pakistan's top players (you can check the squads here) will be featuring in the competition on the back of a humiliating 2-0 Test series loss to Bangladesh, the first time they have lost a Test series to their Asian counterpart.
