Watch: Australia batters Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis somehow survived a run-out chance despite both being at the same end as the ball and the wicketkeeper in the second T20 between Sri Lanka in Sydney.

With Australia 93-2 in the 12th over, Maxwell miscued Wanindu Hasaranga to point and set off for an unlikely single. Inglis charged down the wicket to complete the run, only for Maxwell to change his mind, turning back towards the keeper’s end too. As both batters hurried towards the same end, Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal fumbled the simple run-out, allowing Maxwell to somehow scamper back to the other end unscathed.

While Maxwell was dismissed shortly after, Inglis went on to score 48 off 32 balls as Australia set the visitors 165 to win. Australia defended 149 to win the first match of the series by 20 runs.

With Maxwell running to the non-striker’s end rather than Inglis, Australia secured a crucial single too. The game ended up tied in extraordinary fashion, with Australia winning the super over.
