Smith led Surrey’s mammoth chase of 501 against Kent yesterday (June 13), scoring 114 off just 77 balls at a strike rate close to 150. His knock included 18 fours and four sixes, totalling 96 runs in boundaries.
Twenty of those runs came in a single over off County debutant Arshdeep Singh when Smith smashed him for two pulled sixes and two fours off back-foot punches through the off side in the 51st over of the fourth innings.
The battle between the two was far from over though, as Arshdeep came roaring back later in the innings to dismiss the right-hander with a peach of a delivery.

Bowling the round the wicket, Arshdeep delivered the ball from wide of the crease and got it to come back in with the angle on a back of length, sneaking through the gap between the bat and pad of Smith, and uprooting his off-stump.
The wicket brought Kent right back into the game as Surrey finished Day three on 263-3, requiring another 238 on day four with seven wickets in hand.
Arshdeep has had a good game so far on his County Championship debut, registering figures of 2-43 in the first innings and 1-48 in the second innings so far. Kent will hope that he can provide more such breakthroughs on the final day and take them to their second victory of the season.
