The talismanic England seamer dismissed Kohli for the first time in Test cricket since India’s 2014 tour of England. In that series Anderson dismissed the India batter on four occasions, but Kohli escaped further damage when the two sides met in 2016, 2018 and earlier this year.
Anderson was the victor on Thursday, however, managing to find Kohli’s outside edge with a ball that nipped away from the right-hander. The dismissal was Anderson’s second in two deliveries – he’d just got rid of Cheteshwar Pujara – and moved him to 619 Test wickets, equal with India’s Anil Kumble. Only Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan have taken more Test wickets.
At tea on day two of the second Test, India were 125-4, trailing England’s first-innings total by 58 runs.
