Watch: Pakistan’s Sajid Khan picked up 8-42 to help bowl out Bangladesh for 87 runs in the first innings of the second Test at Dhaka.
Playing in just his fourth Test match, off-spinner Sajid Khan was the star as he picked up the best-ever figures by a Test bowler against Bangladesh. The tourists, who piled on 300-4 declared in their first innings, needed a clinical show from the bowlers to enforce a result in the rain-affected clash, which is exactly what Sajid proceeded to do.
The 28-year-old began with the quick wickets of the openers, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam, before ripping through the middle order. His other scalps included Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Najmul Shanto, Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam before dismissing Shakib Al Hasan to claim his eight-for. The only other Pakistan bowler to pick a wicket in the innings was Shaheen Afridi, who picked up Khaled Ahmed’s wicket, while Mominul Haque was run-out. The hosts were eventually dismissed for 87 as Pakistan enforced a follow-on.
Sajid picked up the last wicket of the Bangladesh innings when he got Shakib to hit a short and wide delivery over short cover. It gave the bowler his eighth wicket, putting him just behind Abdul Qadir (9-56), Sarfraz Nawaz (9-86), and Yasir Shah (8-41) on the Pakistan all-time list.
