Watch: A Monday night clash between Potton Town CC and Bedfordshire Young Farmers CC drew the presence of a star name – Sir Alastair Cook.
England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket was called upon by the Farmers side in their Heritage Cup quarter-final clash and batted at No.5 after his side were set a target of 155, required from 12 overs.
The 37-year-old, who remains a consistent run-scorer at county level for Essex four years on from his international retirement, made 20 before he fell victim to a 15-year-old quick.
Kyran Shackleton was the bowler who beat Cook’s leg-side swat and finished with figures of 4-37 as Potton Town won by 26 runs.
Earlier in the match, Cook – who, famously, has a Test bowling average of seven – rolled over his arm for an over, conceding 14 runs.
Not the most successful outing for a legend of the game, but certainly a memorable one for young Shackleton.
