Watch: Ishant Sharma hit his maiden six in international cricket when India were in the midst of a batting collapse on day two of the third India -England Test.
Ishant Sharma is often known for his dogged resistance with the bat, a lot of which was on evidence in Chennai earlier in the series when he played out 15 dot balls to help Ravichandran Ashwin, inching close to a Test hundred.
When he eventually broke the shackles to step out against Moeen Ali and hit a four, Virat Kohli had stood up and laughed while applauding the tailender.
Here, with India nine down after Joe Root snared four quick wickets in his first five overs, Ishant, on one off 12 balls, lofted Jack Leach over long-off for a maximum in spectacular fashion. In his 194 match international career, this was his first-ever six. He had six sixes in all professional cricket before this. At the time of writing, it’s the only six of the game.
