Abhishek Sharma and Mark Wood during the Kolkata T20I

Watch: In a stunning counter-punch, Abhishek Sharma took on Mark Wood, looting 18 runs off one over, during the India-England T20I in Kolkata.

Abhishek took on Wood, making his comeback after five months sidelines with injury and breathing fire with the new ball, maximising the final over of the powerplay. It included back-to-back sixes, both off 150+ kph deliveries, pushing India towards the target in his first international of 2025.

He did the same against Adil Rashid a few overs later, capitalising on a dropped catch to hammer consecutive sixes, pushing close to a half-century. He reached the landmark off his 20th delivery, getting 48 out of 51 runs in boundaries until that point.

He got off the mark with a six and a four off Jofra Archer, making his intentions clear.

Earlier, it was Sanju Samson who took on the pace attack, smashing 22-runs off a Gus Atkinson over, including a six and two fours off the last three balls of the second over.
