Entering the fray with Kent 80-5 in their first innings – it was soon to be 128-8 – Stevens smashed 15 sixes and 15 fours in his knock, eventually departing when his side had put 294 on the board.

In a ninth-wicket stand of 166 with Miguel Cummins, Stevens expertly shepherded the strike, with the West Indies fast bowler contributing a solitary run in the partnership.

Stevens, who earlier this year became the oldest Wisden Cricketer of the Year since 1933, was eventually dismissed by Marnus Labuschagne, though he got his slice of revenge not long after.

After Kent were bowled out for 307, the 45-year-old took the new ball and trapped the No.3-ranked Test batsman in the world in front of his stumps.

According to statistician Andrew Samson, the innings saw Stevens break the record for the most sixes in a first-class innings by a player aged 40 or over.

Stevens was also credited with forming part of the highest first-class partnership in which one batsman scored more than 90 per cent of the runs in the stand.
