Watch: Chris Gayle, all of 41 years old, hit Jason Holder for a straight six and broke a window at the St Kitts venue in the second game of CPL 2021.

The opening day of the Caribbean Premier League did not witness a Gayle-storm, but walking in at No.3 for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Gayle smashed a six in his nine-ball stay that crashed onto the windows at Warner Park, breaking the glass.

Gayle had an eventful opening day at the CPL. He came in with Mohammad Amir in the midst of a good burst and poked at one outside off first ball to be beaten. Next ball, the West Indian legend was scampering across for a quick brace, something very rarely associated with a reluctant runner like him.

The six off Holder came in the 5th over when Gayle had faced just one delivery across nine balls in the innings. Perhaps frustrated by his denial of the strike, Gayle stepped out to greet Holder’s back of a length delivery and smashed it straight down the ground and into the windows.

“That was sweet,” said Simon Doull on commentary. “Just a little shimmy and bang! Dead straight, right into the windows below us.”

He was dismissed soon after by Oshane Thomas, chopping onto the stumps after being beaten for pace, but the bigger damage was done to the windows earlier in the day.
