Watch: 17-year-old leg-spinner Saad Masood claimed the first five-for in the Pakistan Junior League, turning the ball big to secure Gwadar Sharks top spot in the table.
The youngster made full use of his wicked googly, taking 5-6 to skittle Mardan Warriors for 100.
Gwadar Sharks came into the game with three wins from four, and were assured of top spot and a place in Qualifier 1 if they secured victory. Luc Benkenstein got them off to an excellent start, striking 74 to take them to 170, but at 70-2, Mardan Warriors had a chance of a big chase.
Aftab Ahmed secured the key breakthroughs, dismissing both set batters, and from then on it was all down to Masood. The wrist-spinner claimed five wickets in 15 balls of big-spinning carnage, attacking the stumps to devastating effect.
His first four wickets were all bowled or lbw, with the third wicket a particular treat: Mohammad Irfan attempted to pull a shorter ball, only for significant turn from well outside off to leg-stump to see him castled.
The fifth showcased his leg-spinner, which didn’t turn as appreciably as his previous four, but still foxed Abidullah, who misread the ball, was beaten on the outside edge and stumped.
Gwadar Sharks emerged victorious by 70 runs.
