Watch: Teenage spin bowler Tilly Corteen-Coleman took four wickets in as many balls in a Charlotte Edwards Cup match today, as South East Stars stunned Northern Diamonds to bowl them out for 124.
Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who only joined the Stars' senior side at the start of this season, picked up five wickets in the game – her first five-wicket-haul in a professional match. She bowled the first over of the match but was hit for four by Lauren Winfield-Hill off her first ball, before sending down five dots.
After her first over, Corteen-Coleman didn't come back on to bowl until 16th over, when Northern Diamonds were 110-3. She continued a rapid collapse from the Diamonds when she dismissed Australia all-rounder Erin Burns, the third wicket the Headingley-based side lost in as many over.
It was after Tash Farrant's following over, however, that Corteen-Coleman's devastating burst of wickets started. Having been hit for four by Sterre Kallis earlier in the over, she dismissed the right-hander with a flighted delivery off her last ball, caught on the ring off a miscue. Farrant again struck in the penultimate over to leave the Diamonds seven down before Corteen-Coleman's final over.
The teenager dismissed Grace Hall with her first ball to leave herself on a hat-trick, Hall missing a delivery angled across her and Chloe Hill taking the bails off. She completed the hat-trick by getting veteran seamer Katie Levick out with her next ball, Levick skying a full delivery and Corteen-Coleman getting underneath the ball to take the catch off her own bowling.
Firing the next delivery in, Rachel Slater went back and across but missed the ball completely and found her middle stump pegged back. Corteen-Coleman celebrated the extraordinary spell with both arms aloft before being mobbed by her teammates.
Having been 88-0 in the 13th over, Diamonds were bowled out for 124 with three balls remaining in their innings, losing all ten wickets for 28 runs. Stars chased the total down with ease, reaching their target with four overs and six wickets remaining.
