Watch: Thirteen-year-old opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi shone with a quickfire 26 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Friday (January 3), taking down India international Mukesh Kumar.
In the fifth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's premier List A domestic competition, Bengal and Bihar faced off in a Group E clash on Friday (January 3) at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad.
Bihar were put in to bat first – with 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi opening the batting alongside wicketkeeper Baljeet Singh Bihari. Suryavanshi hit the headlines earlier this year when he scored a 58-ball century for India U19 against Australia in a Youth Test match.

In November, he was the youngest-ever player to be shortlisted for the IPL auction, before becoming the youngest-ever to earn a contract as Rajasthan Royals signed him for INR 1.1 crore. Suryavanshi made his first-class debut last January.
Against Bengal, he faced up against Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, who took the new ball – both vastly experienced bowlers with India caps to their name. Unfazed, Suryavanshi was particularly severe on Mukesh as he laced three fours and two sixes on his way to 26 off 12 balls faced from him. His promising innings was cut short, though, as Shami managed to have the youngster caught behind.
After socres of 4, 0 and 13 in his first three List A games earlier this season, Suryavanshi slammed 71 off 42 balls against Baroda on December 31 before the cameo against Bengal. Unfortunately, Bihar went on to lose both these matches.
