Australia great Shane Warne took to Twitter to comment on Marlon Samuels’s ugly tirade at Ben Stokes on Instagram, calling it a “very sad situation” while mentioning that Samuels ‘needed serious help’.
Warne’s tweet came out just hours after Stokes put out a series of stories on Instagram, seemingly responding to Samuels’s comments directed towards him.
Samuels had put out multiple stories on Instagram on Monday after Stokes spoke about spending time in isolation on the Test Match Special podcast, saying he “wouldn’t wish quarantine on his worst enemy”, jokingly mentioning Samuels. Warne was also mentioned in Samuels’ foul-mouthed rant on Instagram, which received widespread criticism.
In his tweet, Warne said that Samuels “needs serious help”, criticising the tone of his comments by saying, “Just because you were an ordinary cricketer-no need to be an ordinary person.”
I’ve just been sent what Samuels has posted re @benstokes38 & I. It’s a very sad situation as he obviously needs serious help-but has no friends at all & not even his ex teammates like him. Just because you were an ordinary cricketer-no need to be an ordinary person. Get help son

Warne and Samuels have also had a history of differences. The duo were involved in an altercation during a Big Bash League clash in 2013, following which the Australian was handed a one-match ban and a £2,900 fine.
Samuels also namechecked Warne in a remarkable press conference after West Indies’ 2016 World T20 win. “Maybe [his dislike of me] because my face is real, his is not,” Samuels said.
