When he scored 107 against the West Indies in the third of five ODIs in Pune on Saturday, October 27, Virat Kohli became the 10th man overall and first Indian to score three centuries in a row in the format.
It’s a remarkable achievement, made even headier for fans of the India captain because Kohli had become the fastest man to 10,000 ODI runs earlier in the series.

Unfortunately, the icing on the cake went missing in Pune, as the West Indies held on to seal a 43-run win to level the series, after India had won the first game and the second was tied.

Kohli has been in imperious form all right. In many ways, he has just continued from the Test series in England, where he totalled 593 runs from 10 innings.

He started the series with an innings of 140 in Guwahati, and followed it up with 157* in the second in Visakhapatnam before becoming the first Indian to score three in a row in the third game.
A hat-trick of hundreds is just an incredible feat by a special player. Well done @imVkohli. pic.twitter.com/DMc95fCPPX

Amazingly, though the feat has been achieved only 10 times in just under 50 years of ODI cricket – in 4062 fixtures – two batsmen have joined the list in 2018: England’s Jonny Bairstow did it earlier this year.
