Peter Trego and Yorkshire both took to Twitter to deny rumours of the all-rounder signing with the county after he was mistakenly listed as a Yorkshire player in The Hundred draft list.
The 38-year-old was released by Somerset at the conclusion of the 2019 season, having signed a white-ball only contract the year before. A Somerset stalwart – he grew up in the county and has played there for all but three of his 20 years as a professional cricketer – many wondered if that signalled the end for his county career. But Trego has stated his intention to continue playing, and is now on the hunt for a new club.
Yorkshire County Cricket Club would like to thank Peter Trego for his extremely brief spell at the Club and wish him well in #TheHundred.

It would seem that Yorkshire will not be the all-rounder’s destination though, with Trego’s designated club incorrect seemingly due to a mistake made during the filling out of an electronic form. Yorkshire was listed next to the ‘Unattached’ option for a player’s county. The club have had to field calls asking whether Trego had quietly signed with them, but there were no hard feelings between the two with both sides joking about the right-armer’s “extremely brief spell” for the club.
