Vijay Shankar was one of the most expensive buys at the TNPL 2025 auction

The 2025 TNPL Auction was headlined by the return of Karthik Meiyappan who took a hat-trick for the UAE at the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. M Mohammed, Vijay Shankar, Swapnil Singh, and C Andre Siddharth were a few of the costliest buys in the auction apart from the former UAE international.

Ahead of the auction, all franchises announced their retentions with defending champions Dindigul Dragons retaining both R Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy, while Lyca Kovai Kings, the runners-up, retained Shahrukh Khan, Sai Sudharsan, and M Siddharth. Tiruppur Tamizhans retained R Sai Kishore and T Natarajan and Madurai Panthers retained M Ashwin and Gurjapneet Singh.

Chepauk Super Gillies splash big money on all-rounders

At the auction, Vijay Shankar was in huge demand as four of the eight franchises raised their paddles for the Indian international sparking a bidding war which ended with Chepauk Super Gillies bagging the all-rounder for INR 18 lakhs.

Left-arm spinner Swapnil, now with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was in huge demand at the TNPL auction as well before being bagged by the Chepauk-based side for INR 10.8 lakhs.

The Super Gillies didn’t stop there and bagged two more all-rounders in Mokit Hariharan (INR 5.2 lakhs) and Rohith Suthar (INR 7.95 lakhs) to strengthen their squad in search of their fifth TNPL trophy.

Other major buys at the TNPL 2025 auction

It seemed like Vijay Shankar would be the costliest buy at the TNPL 2025 Auction until right-arm quick Mohammed’s name went up, sparking a bidding war which ended with Salem Spartans bagging their target for a price of INR 18.4 lakhs.

The third- and fourth-most expensive purchases were made by Trichy Grand Cholas, who are still in search of their first TNPL title. They got U Mukilesh and Suresh Kumar for INR 17.6 lakhs and INR 16.1 lakhs respectively.

Andre Siddharth, one of the players bought by Chennai Super Kings at the IPL 2025 Auction and the teenager was in demand as well, with Kovai Kings splashing 8.4 lakhs on him.

Chennai-born Meiyappan, who completed a hat-trick for the UAE at the 2022 T20 World Cup, went to Madurai Panthers for INR 9.2 lakhs. Washington Sundar is expected to miss a major portion of the 2025 edition as he is expected to be part of the Indian squad that will travel to England for a five-match Test series. That was probably why he was bought at a fairly low price of INR 6 lakhs by Trichy Grand Cholas.
